Planet Mermaid helps save the Whales and Dolphins!

Planet Mermaid helps save the Whales and Dolphins!

Planet Mermaid is very proud to have one of its own mermaid team member’s sign up to the “Swim Serpentine” event to raise valuable funds for WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, the leading global charity dedicated to the protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises.  The Swim Serpentine event is a one day open water swimming event held on Saturday 18th September at the beautiful Serpentine in Hyde Park, London, home of the Serpentine Swimming Club.  Hyde Park swimming is open to everyone at the Serpentine Lido and is an amazing venue to do wild water swimming. Mermaid Ophelie who took no hesitation in signing up comments: “When I was given the opportunity to participate in this event, I said yes straight away without knowing too much about the details. I am always up for doing new and exciting things that challenge me and allow me to work towards a specific goal, all whilst raising money for a great cause.  I had recently seen articles about an annual tradition in the Faroe Islands in Denmark where a festival involves the needless killing of hundreds of dolphins and whales, these images have continued to be my inspiration and motivation for doing the swim. Whales, dolphins and all sea creatures are a Mermaid's best friend and they need to be saved, they all deserve a chance to live.  When I started training, I was barely able to swim 500m, and this was with lots of breaks! I can now swim 1600m with minimal breaks and longer sets, with each session I try and push myself to swim longer and further. I have loved swimming and being in the water, both in pools and outside in the fresh and most of the time very chilly water. My hair never looks nice, I always seem to have water in my ears and can’t get rid of the smell of chlorine, but it is completely worth it! I'm so excited for the event on the 18th September and can’t wait to swim alongside everyone else participating, I'm sure I won’t be the only mermaid there” Planet Mermaids founder Maggie goes on to say: “We at Planet Mermaid are super proud of Mermaid Ophelie for her endurance, strength and courage to improve her health and stamina whilst doing her part to help save whales, dolphins and porpoises; we are behind her at every stage of this exciting journey” Mermaid Ophelie is openwater swimming in her wetsuit and neoprene swim cap but has said if she raises enough for WDC she may think about using her mermaid tail or even enter other open water swim races in 2021! Mermaid Ophelie has been training extremely hard for this and if all goes well may look to do the North Channel Swim as her next challenge!! Ophelie has already smashed her £300 target which is simply amazing, lets help her get to her ultimate goal of £700, simply click on the link to go straight to her just giving page of you would like to donate to this worthy cause - https://bit.ly/3ySjHyb If Mermaid Ophelie has inspired you to try openwater swimming and you are thinking about where you can find “open water swimming near me” just google and locations will come up near you.  Mermaid Ophelie chose to train at Box End, Kempston in Bedfordshire, near Planet Mermaids HQ. Planet Mermaid will be cheering Mermaid Ophelie on during her swim the 18th September so keep an eye on our social media for live updates! Go Mermaid Ophelie you truly are an inspiration and the whales, dolphins and porpoises will be so proud of you!

Ginger Spice transforms into Mermaid Spice

Ginger Spice transforms into Mermaid Spice

Mermaid tails are making waves in the celebrity world, with the likes of Myleene Klass and Britney Spears enjoying a break at the pool wearing their tails. However, our favourite celebrity mermaid is former Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell, who posted a video of her mermaid transformation back in August of this year. She swam beautifully in our Sunset Splash Mermaid Tail and Magic Fin. Geri’s daughter Bluebell must be mermaid obsessed too as she was seen wearing our “Mermaid Off Duty” t-shirt in an Instagram video. Our t-shirts are perfect to pair with our leggings, which will give off mermaid vibes even when you can’t be by the sea. Geri looks at ease in the water and posted about how happy she was to be taking Monty to swimming lessons. Maybe one day we will see all of the Halliwell family dressed head to tail in our products, now that we have our brand new Planet Shark tails for Monty to swim alongside his mum and big sister. The perfect mermaid family!

Chloe Meadows from TOWIE in Planet Mermaid Leggings

Working with The Only Way is Essex!

We were just reviewing the work we have done with ITVb and TOWIE over the last 2 summers. It was a truly amazing experience to design and make a custom tail for Bobby Norris for the opening episode of the new season last year. He looked mer-mazing and really wowed the crowds and the media attention was fantastic! We have all the magazines and newspaper articles and really do feel proud to have been part of the show. We loved the fact that Bobby recognized the on trend mermaid movement sweeping the nation back in 2015 "mermaids are so on trend right now". Bobby the wise merman! We were over the moon when the producers contacted us again to ask for more Planet Mermaid pieces for reality TV stars Chloe Meadows and Courtney Green. We supplied our MerPlanet Leggings in Starbright Princess and the Frozen Aqua. Both mermaids looked spectacular and used the Mahina fins purchased from us. They took to the water as professional mermaids!   We all do believe that Miss Chloe Meadows really is a mermaid and we loved seeing her mermaid inspired Halloween costume and look forward to helping the fantastic staff and stars of ITVb and other media related opportunities.   Do you have a mermaid inspired event? Eastenders BBC Mermaid

Planet Mermaid in EastEnders!

How wonderful that one of our 'original' tails appeared on a recent episode in EastEnders. The very talented and gorgeous actress Luisa Bradshaw-White aka Tina Carter from the infamous Carter clan was stunningly dressed in an opulent headpiece and our nationwide favorite 'Frozen Blue' mermaid tail. The scene was set - she was draped across the kitchen table at the EastEnders studio with an array of shellfish and a stunning glittering tail.    Unfortunately the scene ended with the little mermaid not jumping for joy, well it is EastEnders!! However she looked super in her Planet Mermaid tail! We are very happy to dress the UK talent on British TV and have worked closely with organisations such as Lime Pictures, ITV, BBC and a variety of corporate events for awards ceremonies.  Of course the only way is PLANET MERMAID!!!! I'm sure Bobby Norris from TOWIE would agree as he looks fantastic in his Planet Mermaid made to measure swimming tail. He made a strong impact in a recent episode of Towie that aired in the Summer of 2015.       We have worked with various professional organisations assisting with events and coordinating high end products for display, promotion, tv, film and leaders of marketing know that nothing quite hits a spot like a mermaid! (even a tattooed merman can look stunning dancing on the decks of Marbella). The magical creatures are so spectacular that seeing them swim is a real treat. We have supported and dressed mermaids worldwide and love what we do :) We recently supported an awards ceremony for Celebrity Cruises in London. You can see the images below and I'm sure you would agree that the professional swimmers from Aquabatixs look stunning in their Industry styled mermaid sets from Planet Mermaid. If you are holding a special event and want to work with a creative flexible organisation then get in touch for a chat to discuss how we can assist your next mermaid moment.
